How to Care for Cashmere

"Maintain the longevity of your cashmere by following our care guide.

You can ensure your favourite cashmere pieces stay in top condition for years to come."

Luca Faloni Pure Cashmere

Washing

Cashmere is a natural fibre crafted from the soft undercoat of Mongolian goats, and can therefore be washed in water. You can either handwash your cashmere garment in a clean sink with lukewarm water, or machine wash it on a handwash or delicate cycle at no more than 30°C, and for no longer than 30 minutes. After the cycle has finished be careful not to leave your garment in the washing machine.

Whichever method you choose, always be sure to turn your garment inside out before washing, and when machine washing, add an extra layer of protection by popping it in a mesh washing bag or a pillowcase first.

Be sure to use only a small amount of delicate detergent or a specialist cashmere shampoo. You can also use baby shampoo to maintain an ultra-soft texture.

If your cashmere is stained, dry cleaning is the best option.

Drying

When washed, lay your cashmere garment on a towel and then gently roll and unroll it in order to remove any excess water. Never wring out, scrunch or twist as this can result in a misshapen garment. Once the towel has absorbed any excess water, lay your garment flat and gently stretch it to its original shape.

Keep it away from radiators and direct sunlight, allowing it to air dry naturally.

Storing

Each Luca Faloni cashmere knit comes with a luxury dust bag. Store your cashmere within the dust bag to keep it fresh and free from snags, and to protect it from moths. For extra protection, line your drawers or shelves with anti-moth paper or place moth balls or lavender inside your dust bag. You can also hang rosemary in your wardrobe.

Always store your cashmere folded in a cool, dry place as opposed to hanging it as that will cause stretching. Additionally, avoid wearing your cashmere with anything that will cause pulls or snags. By following these steps, your cashmere will retain its quality season after season.

Maintaining

Drying cashmere garments flat should avoid creases, however, should any occur from wear, turn yours inside out and iron at a low temperature. Always place a cloth or towel between the iron and the garment to avoid direct contact.

As cashmere fibres are shorter than wool, pilling is normal, but it can easily be removed with a Luca Faloni cashmere comb. Lay your knit on a hard, flat surface and brush from top to bottom in short strokes, applying medium pressure. After you do this for the first time, your garment will then pill less often but it’s good practice to repeat the process once per season for a neat finish.
